Artist’s Context – Song: I See Fire (Ed Sheeran)
2018 was easily the worst year of my life.
I don’t remember a whole lot about it.
(A subsequent medication review and adjustment has assisted with Adrian’s health)

The song… I couldn’t even tell you what prompted me to do it.
From February through into March, I was severely depressed.
In and amongst all of those hospital stays and meltdowns and
suicide attempts to be honest, somewhere I got in contact
with Rachel Beeton (from Sydney Army Band), who got me in
contact with Jeff Camilleri (Army Band).

I drove down to Sydney, and did an initial jam.
I had the song in mind, an Ed Sheeran cover.
With Rod Mason’s help (Army Band) they had it all bundled up as a project.
It came together throughout June, July and August and then
went into post-production for release by Remembrance Day.

I remember being in hospital, emailing back and forth with
some representative at Sony to get permission to use the song.
And then they had to ask if we could change one line in the song.
I just can’t account for the amount of work that went into it.
Like, in and amongst all that severe bloody melancholia… we went and recorded.

I haven’t even watched that entire film clip.
It’s distressing for me to watch it… because I look at—
I look at me and the very first thing of me I can see
how severely bloody depressed I was.

I was literally on day release from the mental hospital
when we filmed that. My brother had to escort me, he drove…
that’s why my brother’s in the clip.
He escorted me down, we did it and then I was straight
back into the hospital. And we did that for recording too.
