Creative Writing ~ Program 15.2

Artist’s Context – Poem: The Protea Pixie (2020)
I think that the intent …. is to reflect upon something that I had created during the ARRTS program itself, and I am more than happy to do so.
However, the Program, for me, was multifaceted. I could present one piece of work, but it would not really be fair to other aspects.
How could I discuss one piece that included the short stories, the guest speakers, the poems, the guidance, the excursions, the music, the camaraderie?
Instead, I thought I would write a new poem. Something that might capture the multilayered experience of the ARRTS.

Until the ARRTS program, I had barely ever penned a poem.
In fact, other than while I was at school when teachers would force us to write something on our slates, I can only ever recall writing one poem.
It was to my Brother-in-Law on his 50th birthday. Since the ARRTS, I have penned quite a few.
I like to play with the words and use a voice barely allowed in our SMS, emoticon obsessed world; LOL.

The Protea Pixie (An allegory in honour of ARRTS)
What sublime beauty the Protea Pixie provokes
like a multifaceted diamond caressed by the sun’s strokes.
Its fine white edges line the delicate pink petal
An unrivalled example of Mother nature’s mettle

Its dark mauve stamen, gushing sweet perfume,
an irresistible arena where insects consume.
Birds too find splendour here
as they draw and imbibe the nectar so dear.

The Protea Pixie as indifferent as it may seem,
Appeals to all in many ways unseen.
I cannot describe what it does for me,
Just rest assured, I cherish it with glee!
What can resist the Protea Pixie? Not the butterfly, the bird or bee; nor me.
