Kris Dennison

Kris was born in Sydney in 1975, living there with his younger sister and brother until 1986. During these early years he first discovered a passion for photography in his father’s darkroom, learning the processing sequence from putting film in a canister to developing his own Black & White photos.

In 1987 the family moved to the Gold Coast in Queensland and then onto Brisbane a year later. As a teenager in Brisbane, the photography took a back seat for a while. After finishing school and working a few different jobs, Kris joined the Army in 2000. During his time in uniform Kris remarks he has met some great people and been afforded a number of amazing opportunities, including a posting overseas for two years to New Zealand.

Following his last deployment, Kris faced a family breakdown. To continue capturing memories of his kids Kris picked up a camera again, and subsequently found himself on the ADF ARRTS program. This was not an easy time for Kris, but he was able to channel his emotions and feelings down the lens of a camera, and so found himself doing this more and more.

In 2015 Kris was lucky enough to meet his current partner who has supported him 100% on his journey, including his 2019 decision to explore turning his passion for photography into something more. Kris cites he would rather try and fail than look back later and regret not trying at all.
