Visual Arts ~ Program 16.1

I can say that without a doubt the ARRTS program has been the best course I’ve done in all my time in uniform. All of the staff on Program 16.1 were great.
All very passionate, dedicated and caring, and it showed from the first day to the last.
It really helped me as a person, and what I took away from my time there has
continued to help me. And the fact that I was up on stage, in front of an audience,
speaking, is a testament to that.

This photo was taken as part of a project I completed on the ARRTS program.
The finished piece was titled ‘Anxiety’ and in the end came together
quite well and allowed me to achieve the intent I had set out to display.
This photo was one that did not actually make it into the final cut.
I still love this photo, and after the course I ended up using Photoshop
to enhance some of the aspects of the image. The ‘Clown’ was Robin Davidson,
one of the drama mentors, and it was his passion and dedication
to his art that allowed me to make my idea a reality.

In some images, I enjoy trying to show motion in ways that normally doesn’t happen.
This is a waterfall at Picnic Point in Toowoomba and I had been experimenting with
different filters on my camera. I tried a number of different views of the waterfall
and this ended up being my favourite.

I travelled to Melbourne and while there decided to finally drive the Great Ocean Road.
Into the ute with a swag and a camera, and after my first night this is the scene I woke up to.
The colours from the sun hitting the rocks looked amazing early in the morning
and of course I could not resist taking this photo.

One of the things I have found myself doing since the course is looking at everything and
taking a mental note of how something would look as a photo. How can I share something
with others and let them see what I see? This bird had me thinking that from the moment
I saw it perched on top of what I can only think of is a nest of sorts and being very proud of it.
This was taken at a small wetlands area near Bribie Island.

I love getting out and about in the Ute. I had originally intended to convey this
image in black and white set against a backdrop of an old abandoned industrial estate.
Sometimes the image in my head does not always match what I produce in the end.
But even when I don’t end up with the result I am after, I nearly always learn something new.
